What’s cooking on St. Patrick’s Day? Seems a simple question with a simple answer since corned beef and cabbage is a known tradition among Irish diners. However, there’s more, up to and including green items that pique even more interest in the food of the day for those who favor this hue.
With that said, are you looking for a quick fix for slurping something green? Head on over to your local McDonald’s for the franchise’s famous Shamrock Shake. Mint flavored and died the right color, this seasonal staple was first introduced in 1970.
What
This popular shake was conceived by James Byrne, executive artist for Rogers Merchandising, who broke out a family recipe to be shared by McDonalds in February and March every year. Oh, and remember, you have to happen to be in the US, Canada or Ireland to be privy to this green treat from the fast food haven with the legendary golden arches.
Meanwhile, a multitude of cooks and bakers will want to come up with something for St. Patrick’s Day that reeks of smells that emulate from their own collective kitchens.
For these trusty creators of something new, the oven is the best place to produce such delights as the perfect key lime pie or a selection of cupcakes topped with green icing in addition to a cake topper in the shape of a leprechan’s hat or a perfect shamrock. Talk about celebrating the day with confections that give a nod to the Irish without saying a single word.
Finally, one of the best taste treats to be enjoyed on the day of the Festival of St. Patrick is a rub or two of cool mint chocolate chip ice cream. Choose your weapon, er, your brand, and buy enough for a happy St. Patrick’s day indeed. Oh, and don’t forget to wear green on March 17. If you don’t you won’t be able to eat any of the above. And that’s a promise, at least to those who are members of my family.
